More Than Aesthetics

Why Straight Teeth Are a Health Decision — Not Just a Cosmetic One.

A straight smile is about more than how you look in photos. Properly aligned teeth are fundamentally easier to clean — toothbrush bristles and floss can reach all surfaces, which means less plaque buildup, less decay, and healthier gums over time.

Misaligned teeth create uneven bite force — certain teeth take more wear than they should, leading to premature enamel loss and jaw strain. Over years, this can contribute to TMJ problems, chronic headaches, and the need for more complex restorative work.

Orthodontic treatment at any age — whether it's brackets for a teenager or clear aligners for an adult — is an investment in long-term oral health, not just confidence. And the confidence itself shouldn't be underestimated.

Better Oral Hygiene

Straight teeth are significantly easier to brush and floss effectively — reducing the risk of decay and gum disease long-term.

Less Wear & Jaw Strain

Proper bite alignment distributes chewing force evenly — protecting enamel and reducing stress on the jaw joint.

Lasting Confidence

The psychological impact of a straight, well-aligned smile is real — and it compounds over time.

Your Options

Every Orthodontic Option, in One Place.

Whether you want the most affordable solution, the most discreet, or the fastest — we have an option for you. Dr. Magallanes will recommend the best fit for your case at your consultation.

01

Metal Brackets

The most proven and cost-effective orthodontic option. Metal brackets are highly durable, capable of handling any complexity of case, and often the fastest route to results. The go-to for children and teens — and still widely chosen by adults.

Best for: most cases · most affordable
02

Sapphire (Clear) Brackets

Ceramic brackets that match your tooth color and blend naturally against the enamel surface. They provide the same mechanical effectiveness as metal brackets — virtually invisible at normal conversational distance.

Best for: aesthetics-conscious patients
03

Lingual Braces

Brackets placed on the inside (tongue-facing) surface of the teeth — completely hidden from view. Lingual braces are the most discreet fixed orthodontic option available. Nobody will know you're wearing them.

Best for: maximum discretion
Popular Choice
04

Clear Aligners

A series of custom-made, removable transparent trays that gradually shift teeth into position. Changed every few weeks. Removable for eating and cleaning — ideal for adults who want an unobtrusive treatment that fits their lifestyle.

Best for: adults · discreet · removable
05

Maxillary Orthopedics

Appliances designed for growing children that guide jaw development at the optimal stage — before the bones have fully set. Early intervention can prevent more complex orthodontic treatment later and is often more effective than waiting.

Best for: children · jaw development
06

Retainers

The final — and often overlooked — stage of orthodontic treatment. Retainers maintain your results after active treatment ends. Without consistent retainer use, teeth naturally drift back. We provide both fixed and removable retainer options.

Essential: post-treatment maintenance
Every Stage of Life

Orthodontics for Children, Teens & Adults.

Ages 6–12

Children

The best time to address developing bite and jaw issues is while the bones are still growing. Early evaluation — around age 7 — allows Dr. Magallanes to identify problems that are far easier to correct now than after full development.

  • Early bite evaluation
  • Maxillary orthopedic appliances
  • Space maintainers
  • Gentle, patient-first approach
Ages 12–18

Teenagers

The teenage years are the most common time for orthodontic treatment — permanent teeth are in, the jaw is still developing, and results come faster than in adults. We offer every bracket type, including aesthetics-friendly options for self-conscious teens.

  • Metal or sapphire brackets
  • Clear aligners for older teens
  • Typically faster treatment times
  • Retainer included at completion
Any Age

Adults

There is no age limit for orthodontic treatment. Adults increasingly choose orthodontics — for health reasons, for confidence, or simply because they never had the opportunity when younger. Discreet options like clear aligners and lingual braces make adult treatment more accessible than ever.

  • Clear aligners (most popular for adults)
  • Lingual braces — completely hidden
  • Sapphire brackets — subtle and effective
  • Treatment coordinated with your schedule
The Process

What to Expect from Orthodontic Treatment.

Orthodontic treatment is a commitment — and we think it's important you understand exactly what that looks like before you start. There are no surprises at Dental & Implant Center.

1
Initial Assessment

Digital X-rays, intraoral photos, and a full bite analysis. Dr. Magallanes presents your treatment options with realistic timelines and transparent pricing.

2
Appliance Placement

Brackets bonded or aligners delivered. First adjustments are minor — most patients adapt within a week.

3
Regular Adjustment Appointments

Typically every 4–8 weeks for brackets. Aligners are changed at home every 2–3 weeks. Progress is monitored at each visit.

4
Removal & Retainer

When teeth have reached their final position, appliances are removed and retainers are fitted. Consistent retainer use protects your investment.

Common Questions

Orthodontics FAQ

Am I too old for braces or aligners?

No — there is no age limit for orthodontic treatment. Teeth can be moved at any age as long as the gums and bone are healthy. Adults routinely complete successful orthodontic treatment in their 30s, 40s, and beyond. Clear aligners and lingual braces have made adult orthodontics more discreet and practical than ever.

What's the difference between clear aligners and Invisalign?

Invisalign is a brand name — one of the most recognized in clear aligner therapy. At Dental & Implant Center, we offer clear aligner treatment using high-quality aligner systems appropriate for your case. The treatment principle is identical: a series of custom clear trays that progressively move teeth. Dr. Magallanes will advise on which system is best suited to your specific alignment needs.

Do braces hurt?

Placement itself is not painful — no anesthesia is needed. In the first few days after placement or adjustment, some patients experience mild soreness as teeth begin to move. This is normal and typically resolves within 2–4 days. Over-the-counter pain relief handles it comfortably for most patients. Lingual braces may initially affect speech slightly, which resolves as the tongue adapts.

When should my child first see an orthodontist?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic evaluation around age 7, when the first permanent molars typically appear. At this stage, Dr. Magallanes can identify developing bite issues and advise whether early intervention is beneficial — or whether monitoring is the right approach. Not every child needs treatment at 7, but the evaluation is valuable regardless.

Can I get orthodontic treatment if I have dental work (crowns, implants, veneers)?

In most cases, yes — though the approach needs to be adapted. Implants cannot be moved (they're anchored in bone), so they act as fixed anchors during treatment. Crowns and veneers can have brackets bonded to them with special adhesive, though there are some considerations around aesthetics. Dr. Magallanes will assess your existing dental work at consultation and design a plan that works with it.

How often do I need to come in for appointments?

For bracket-based treatment (metal, sapphire, lingual), adjustment appointments are typically every 4–8 weeks. For clear aligners, tray changes happen at home every 2–3 weeks, with in-office check-ups every 6–8 weeks to monitor progress. For Arizona patients, we can space appointments to align with your travel schedule where clinically appropriate.

Can I get orthodontic treatment as an Arizona patient traveling to Nogales?

Yes — many of our orthodontic patients travel from Tucson, Sierra Vista, Phoenix, and Nogales AZ. Clear aligners are particularly well-suited for Arizona patients since tray changes happen at home, requiring fewer in-office visits. For bracket-based treatment, we schedule adjustments every 6–8 weeks where possible and can provide emergency contact guidance for between visits. See our Arizona Patients guide.
