What Counts as a Dental Emergency?

If you're in significant pain, something has broken, or you have swelling — that's an emergency. You don't need to wait for a "regular" appointment. Contact us immediately and we will get you seen as quickly as possible.

Dental emergencies that go untreated don't stay stable — infections spread, broken teeth crack further, and what starts as a manageable problem becomes a more complex and expensive one. Early treatment almost always means a better outcome.

What To Do

Immediate Steps for Common Dental Emergencies.

01

Severe Toothache

Rinse with warm salt water. Take over-the-counter pain relief if needed. Do NOT place aspirin directly on the tooth or gum — this can burn tissue. Call us immediately.

02

Knocked-Out Tooth

Handle by the crown only — never the root. Rinse gently with water, do not scrub. If possible, place back in the socket or keep in milk. Time is critical — contact us within 30 minutes for the best chance of saving it.

03

Broken Tooth

Rinse your mouth with warm water. Save any broken pieces. Apply a cold compress to the face to reduce swelling. Avoid chewing on that side. Call us as soon as possible.

04

Lost Crown or Filling

The exposed tooth may be sensitive. Avoid very hot or cold foods. If you have the crown, keep it — it may be re-cemented. Dental wax or sugar-free gum can temporarily protect the area. Contact us promptly.

05

Dental Abscess

An abscess is a serious infection that will not resolve without treatment. Rinse with mild salt water to relieve discomfort. Do not try to drain it yourself. This is urgent — contact us immediately.

06

Facial Swelling

Swelling of the jaw or face can indicate a spreading infection — a serious condition. Apply a cold compress. Seek care urgently. If swelling affects breathing or swallowing, go to an emergency room immediately.

Emergency Dentistry FAQ

How quickly can I be seen for a dental emergency?

We prioritize emergency patients and aim to see you the same day you contact us. Call or WhatsApp as early as possible — we'll make room in the schedule. For after-hours emergencies, we're available by confirmed appointment.

Do you handle dental emergencies on weekends?

Saturday appointments are available during regular hours (9AM–2PM). Sunday emergencies are handled by confirmed appointment — contact us by phone or WhatsApp and we will arrange care based on the urgency of your situation.

What if my tooth was knocked out?

Time is critical. Handle the tooth by the crown only, rinse gently without scrubbing, and try to reinsert it in the socket if possible — or keep it in milk if not. Contact us immediately. Re-implantation success rates drop significantly after 30–60 minutes, so every minute matters.

Is a lost filling or crown an emergency?

It depends on your symptoms. If you have significant pain or sensitivity, treat it as urgent. If you're experiencing only minor sensitivity, contact us the same day to schedule a prompt appointment. The exposed tooth structure should be protected as soon as possible to avoid further damage or infection.

I'm in pain right now — what should I do?

Call us at (520) 409-3185 or WhatsApp (520) 264-6531 right now. We will assess your situation and get you seen as quickly as possible. Take over-the-counter pain relief in the meantime and avoid the affected side while eating.
